The Journal of Prolotherapy - For Doctors & Patients
OUR MISSION IS TO EDUCATE THE WORLD ON THE LIFE-CHANGING EFFECTS OF PROLOTHERAPY

Introduction and Expectations

As you know, the Journal of Prolotherapy (JOP) has an audience of both the health care professional and the lay public. It is important to remember this when you are writing. Because of this, we require that every submission (except comments by readers) must be read by at least three people (excluding yourself) with at least one proofer being a doctor (medical doctor or osteopathic physician) and one being a lay person. Thus, before submission, four people (including yourself) have reviewed the transcript for grammatical correctness, professional correctness, and understandability by a lay person.

Abstracts, Articles, Case Reports, and Commentaries

A one-page abstract of your submission is required. Include a double-spaced summary page that includes the primary author’s full name, credentials, academic degree, title, and affiliation, postal address, daytime phone number, and e-mail address. (Information is for verification and correspondence.)

Article and Manuscript Submission

Please provide articles in the following format: double-spaced, include page numbers, and have a title page that lists the author’s full name, affiliations, highest academic degree, complete address, daytime phone number, fax number, and e-mail address. If there is more than one author, provide information for each contributor and designate one author to handle correspondence.

If submitting a manuscript, include a signed statement that the article is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by any other publication or electronic medium. Also include a brief author(s) biography and a color photograph (preferably electronically) of the author(s) at the time of submission.

Length

Articles need not conform to strict word counts. However, as a general guideline, feature stories typically run 2,000 to 2,500 words and articles run 800 to 1,200 words. Authors are encouraged to submit sidebars as well.

References

Information from other published works should be completely and accurately referenced in the order in which it is cited in the text. List references in numerical order according to the American Medical Association Manual of Style. Do not list references that are not cited in the text. Provide a list of any individuals interviewed for the article and include the interviewee’s full name, title, affiliation, address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address. Include website URLs and date accessed when used as a reference.

Artwork

Submission of photographs, charts, tables, and other graphics is encouraged. Please submit any artwork or other graphics along with a statement of originality. If the artwork has been previously published, or is based upon previously published material, written permission from the copyright holder to reproduce or adapt that artwork must be submitted. Consent forms must be provided by any individuals identifiable in photographs. Photographs may be submitted as glossy prints or electronically as JPEG, TIFF, PDF, or EPS files. Images must have at least 300 dpi resolution and be a minimum of 4" x 6". All photos, tables, and other graphics should be clearly labeled and captioned. Tables should be numbered in order of their citation in the article.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are solely responsible for the content of submitted articles. The journal accepts no responsibility for inaccuracies in manuscripts or references. It is the author’s responsibility to notify the journal of any potential conflict of interest with respect to submitted articles and to acknowledge affiliation with any organization or entity mentioned in the text and/or financial interest in any subject matter, organization, or product discussed.

Editing, Acceptance, and Expectations

While the editors will attempt to preserve the author’s voice whenever possible, all accepted articles, manuscripts or letters to the editor will be edited for space and clarity according to the journal’s style and format. We expect that your submission will come in a format that has already been edited for typographical errors and omissions. Submissions will be rejected that have not been properly edited and/or formatted. Remember, your submission must be proofed by another physician and a lay person, in addition to yourself. Remember, this journal is to be written for both physicians and the lay public.

Typically authors are notified within 30 days as to whether their submission has been accepted for the paper journal, website, and/or both.
